Corporate Social Responsibility > Humanitarian > Johor (M'sia) Flood Disaster 2006

Approaching Christmas of 2006, continuous and unabated rain over most of the southern part of the state of Johor in Malaysia have caused an unexpected and unprecedented disastrous flooding in the state, notably in and around the city centre of Kota Tinggi. The flooding recurred about two weeks later in early January 2007. According to the residents of Kota Tinggi, the second flooding was even worst with flood water level higher than the first round.

TekMark Group, as a responsible corporate citizen, has always fully subscribed to our commitment to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of making a positive difference towards our community well-being through charitable deeds.

So with the full blessing of Ralph Khor, our Group Managing Director, a TekMark Johor Flood Disaster Action Committee was immediately formed and galvanized into action. We promptly set our main objective of timeliness in delivering our basic flood relief necessities to alleviate sufferings of flood victims/families in Kota Tinggi. An expeditionary team, relief supplies, and transportation needs were quickly decided upon. At the same time, to make our CSR initiative more meaningful and participative, we also instantly started an internal fund raising campaign among all staff of the Group. Within 2 to 3 days we managed to raise enough fund to purchase the following relief supplies to fill 2 company vans.

216Kg of biscuits making up of 270 tins of 800gm each;
720Litres of mineral waters making up of 480 1.5L bottles;
500Kg of white rice making up of 50bags of 10Kg pack each;
69Kg of children's milk powder making up of 1.1Kg & 1.2Kg packs;
96 bars of Dettol hygienic soaps.

The Expedition TekCare Johor set forth for Kota Tinggi on Sunday, 21 January 2007. We unloaded a van-load each of our flood relief supplies at two relief distribution centres namely, at the MCA Kota Tinggi Branch Flood Relief Distribution Centre and the Dewan Serbaguna Rumah Orang-Orang Tua Flood Relief Distribution Centre.

We sincerely hope that our flood relief contributions would be able to provide some timely relieve to the unfortunate victims/families of the recent Kota Tinggi flooding.

We also wish them speedy recovery.

We are glad to report that our expeditionary mission, which took about 12 hours, has been successfully accomplished.
