Visit To House Of Joy 2004 & 2006
Following close on the heel of the visit to the Ampang Old Folks' Home, another group of around fifteen TekMarkers organized a trip on Thursday 26 January 2006, to visit the House of Joy in Puchong. The home was established in August 1992 to provide shelter and care to orphans and destitute children, children who are neglected and abused by their families and society, and also problem children and teenagers. Special handicapped children (slow learner or Down syndrome) as well as some destitute elderly folks have been accepted. To date there is about 65 children and teens, 10 handicapped children and 25 old folks are provided shelters.

With the full support and blessing from our Managing Director, Ralph Khor, TekMarkers again stepped forth to share and spread the joy and festive mood of the coming Chinese New Year (of the Fire Dog) with yet another section of our less fortunate in society. During the visit, TekMarkers distributed about 150 redpackets and mandarin oranges to the residents of the shelter. Consumables like biscuits, packaged milk, milo and towels and staff contributions were handed over to the shelter’s management. About 60 bottles of shoe white were also handed over as requested. Two TekMarkers, Jackie and Jimmy Yap, also handed out redpackets of their own to the boys and girls.

We came across a very heart wrenching and memorable tale of a cute and very lovable 4 years old boy who was send to the shelter when he was only 8 months old by a relative because the boys mother has passed away and the father was in jail for a drug offence and did not know of his birth. The father only got to know upon his release that he has a son and that his son has already lost his mother. The shelter is currently trying to help the father to readjust to society and we all sincerely hope that the boy will have a better tomorrow. At this point, we felt consoled in knowing that our Corporation has always supported the philanthropic social initiative of making direct or in-kind contributions of corporate resources to a charity or cause that will make people like the boy mentioned above, have a better and brighter future.
